What is Banner?
Banner is the name of a fully integrated software solution developed by SunGard Higher Education and used by the University to manage its business operations. The Banner system, at UNE, supports and manages student information, accounts receivable, financial aid, finance, and human resources. In addition, Banner includes a number of self-service (a.k.a. U-Online) features so that students, faculty and advisors, and staff can access personalized and online University services to conveniently conduct business.
What is Banner PROD and Banner TEST?
Banner PROD and Banner TEST are the Banner Web Client used by the University to access the Banner system for day-to-day business. PROD is the Production database where all current and ‘live’ data resides. TEST is the Test database where certain offices will test functions and processes in Banner before implementing into Production. This Banner Web Client is used to manage student information, accounts receivable, financial aid, finance, and human resources. To access the Banner Web Client, the user must be on site or, if off site, authenticated with VPN (Virtual Private Network). To obtain an account for Banner access, please submit a Banner Security form to the Data Control Manager in ITS.
Who uses Banner?
Banner is used for day-to-day business processing. The primary users are Administrative staff, student employees, staff in the academic departments, and staff/faculty in the Dean's office.
How do I get my Banner account?
To obtain your Banner account, you must fill out and submit the Banner Security form to the Data Control Manager in the ITS office. The Data Control Manager will create the account with appropriate privileges for your day-to-day use of the system based on what you are requesting, get appropriate approval for the requested access and inform the trainer about the new user. The trainer will then contact the new user to set up training.
How do I change my Banner password?
After completing your training, you will be able to change your password at any time by clicking on ‘Change Banner Password’. This link is on the right side of the main menu. You can also change your password by going directly to the form GUAPSWD.
If I have a Banner account but forgot my password, what do I do?
If you can't remember your Banner password, contact the IT Help Desk ticket for assistance resetting it.
What is different between Banner and U-Online?
The main difference between Banner and U-Online is that Banner is a web client that is used for day-to-day business processing and data-entry. Banner requires more user-end training and security. The primary users of the Banner Web Client are the administrative departments (e.g. Registrar's Office, Human Resources, Housing, Finance, Bursar's Office, Financial Aid, etc.). U-Online is a self-service product for students and employees. U-Online is accessible to all UNE employees, students, and alumni. The primary users of U-Online are Faculty and Students.
Can I access Banner remotely (from a personal PC)?
All connections to Banner require authentication through VPN, which must be done on a UNE owned computer. This connectivity is referred to as the Virtual Private Network (VPN). Users may access remotely via their ISP connection by authenticating with the VPN. This type access requires approval from the CIO. A request form can be obtained here.
Who do I contact with Banner Web Client issues?

How do I get my printer setup for Banner job submission?
Banner direct printing can be setup to Hewlett-Packard printers. Kyocera printers do work if you are not using the ‘passcode’ feature to print documents.
If you have a Hewlett-Packard printer or a Kyocera printer (not enabled for passcodes), a request can be made to have it enabled for Banner printing by contacting the IT Help Desk.
How can I get Banner training?
Banner training is offered when you first become a Banner user. The ITS trainer offers general Banner navigational training to all Banner users. This training is not function or model specific. It is designed to provide the user with the necessary skills to navigate throughout the interface.
Other training is functional, and users may refer to the Banner documentation link.

What is U-Online?
U-Online is a secured self-service system that allows students, faculty and advisors, and staff to access personalized and online university services. The UNE U-Online system provides functionality delivered by SunGard Higher Education and customized applications developed by the IT Support Center. Access to the U-Online system requires your Nor’Easter ID and password.

What is different about U-Online and the Banner Web Client?

What is my U-Online ID and password?
The U-Online ID is your Nor’Easter ID. The password is the same password you create at the password portal password.une.edu that is used by several university systems (e.g. UNE email, Blackboard, Lab and Library computers). Please use a unique password and do not share this with anyone.
How do I get my password reset?
Passwords for U-Online can be reset at any time using the UNE password portal password.une.edu if your have established your Password Challenge Response question. If you have not established your Password Challenge Response question please contact the IT Help Desk.
Why is the text so small when I print pages from U-Online?
Internet Explorer uses a default setting called "Shrink To Fit" when printing web pages, which shrinks your page so that it fits on the paper, no matter what the size. Change the size to 100% when printing to prevent the text from shrinking.
